Revelator’s Video of the Day:
LAWS - Run Away
I keep being impressed with LAWS, he’s got a lot of potential.
Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan is by far one of the best movies of the year. It is a beautiful and chilling character study of a woman’s struggle to achieve perfection. A recurring theme in Aronofsky’s films is obsession, and Black Swan is no different. Natalie Portman plays a ballet dancer, competing for the lead role of her company’s rendition of Black Swan.
Both through Aronofsky’s vision and Portman’s brilliant performance, I was in awe of the events unfolding in front of my eyes. There are constant close ups of Portman’s face. Even during the dance sequences the camera is always close enough to see everyone of her expressions, making the movie a personal experience. I say experience because once Portman’s character starts spiraling out of control, I was in for the ride.
As I am writing this I am realizing that I am in no way capable of writing a review that would truly give this movie justice. All I can say is that Natalie Portman accessed something deep and dark inside of her to give such a brilliant performance, and Aronofsky has never translated such physiological struggle so well to the screen before.
After watching Black Swan, I believe that Aronofsky can make a two and a half hour movie about a can of Campbell’s Soup and it would be a beautiful piece of art that would either make me cry or drive me crazy. I say this because he is that good!
Dwayne Johnson is a beast. I mean the guy is massive and he’s proven time and time again that he has charisma. He might not be a great actor but the man is meant to be in action movies. He could one day join the ranks of Arnold, Stallone or Willis, but only if he stops making family movies like the Tooth Fairy. For this reason I ask of you, please run to theatres right now and watch Faster. Hell, watch the Fast Five when it comes out even if you hate the Fast & the Furious franchise because if these movies make money, maybe, just maybe he’ll finally be the action star he’s always meant to be.
Revelator’s Video of the Day: Cassius - I Love U So
I love this music video. Its a simple concept that works extemly well. My only issue with this video is that it lacks my big lucious lips.
Rock’em Sock’em Robots is the first thing I thought of while watching this trailer. The second, is how the hell did a movie like this ever get made? If anyone knows please tell me.
The way I see it, the writers were getting baked one night trying to come up with an idea for a script. They were so baked that their discussion got derailed, and they started reminiscing about their childhood toys. Rock’em Sock’em Robots was mentioned, which gave one of the writers a flash of genius.
“What if we wrote a script based on Rock’em Sock’em Robots!” said the first writer.
“Oh shit son I think your on to something, this could really work” replied the second writer.
“A boxing movie about robots with a little dash of Rocky, its bound to sell!” said the first writer with a twinkle in his eyes.
As you can see I can wrap my head around the birth of this idea because most of us come up with the craziest ideas when we are baked out of our minds, but the question still remains. How the hell do you sell an idea like this?
All jokes aside, I hope that this will turn out to be a good movie. I like Hugh Jackman, and I would rather not see him in another flop like the Wolverine Origins. That said, I have no clue what these Hollywood studio executives are thinking when their green lighting these projects, but this trailer gives me hope that my epic script about the shady world of underground Jenga tournaments has a chance of getting made.
